8 Reasons Why You Should Buy Wool Rugs

 by: John Murray

Wool has been around for a long time, in fact it is one of the oldest textile fiber known of. Because of its natural properties wool rugs have been known to last for generations. In our modern world there are many other textile fiber used for rugs but nothing is as durable, unique, and lasting as wool. Here are 8 reasons why you should buy wool rugs.

1. Fire Resistant

Wool is a natural fiber that is very safe because it is naturally non flammable so it does not need to be treated. Although wool can burn it cannot flare up to cause a flame that spreads. So where ever the burn starts will be where it ends as well. Wool won't melt either so it won't stick to the skin and cause a burn. That is why wool blankets, carpets, and even clothing for children are so popular. They are like having fire prevention insurance.

2. Water Repellent

Because of the tiny scales on the outer edge of wool it is very good at repelling liquid. So wool rugs are an excellent choice for high traffic areas or areas where the kids hang out. A drink spilled on a wool rug will simply need to be dabbed up. It will not absorb into the rug. If you don't believe me try it. Grab a wool sweater and pour some water on it. You'll see the water beads on the surface. The wool will absorb moisture but not liquid.

3. Versatile

Wool is one of the most versatile textures around. And there are many different types of wool from the fine style that is used to knit a beautiful sweater to the heavier styles used for rugs and carpets. The mix of sizes and colors available limits rug designs only to the imagination of the designer. Wool is so versatile it can be found in mattresses, coats, carpets, rugs, blankets, and even some paint rollers. If you want a rug that's going to look beautiful, stay fresh, and last forever buy a wool rug. And because wool is so elastic it can shows little wear, and virtually no footprints so it springy.

4 Wearability

Wool wears for a very long time staying fresh and new looking. It will not look flat or shabby for a long time. Wool has a natural coil spring built into it so rather then breaking down it springs back making it wear well, keeping its shape for a long time.

5. Resists Dirt

Because wool has a natural ability to resist dirt it stays clean a lot longer and the scales of the fiber stop dirt from penetrating the wool. This means you don't have to shampoo and clean your rug nearly as often and it will stay looking fresh and new for a lot longer.

6. No Static

Wool naturally absorbs moisture in the air which means it is very unlikely to build a static charge. So you can walk across a wool carpet with no worry about getting zapped. It's also an excellent choice around computers which can be damaged by a static charge.

7. Insulation

Wool is an excellent insulation absorbing sound and reducing noise. That's why you'll see wool carpets in offices and airports where there is a high level of noise that needs to be muted. Wool also works well in theaters or other arenas where acoustics is important.

8. Dyes

Wool is very easy to dye so you have a wide range of colors available to choose from. Wool holds color very well and lasts forever.

Mattress Shopping 101

Mattress Shopping 101

 by: Stuart Simpson

Is it time for a new bed?
Is your mattress flat?
Do you lie in a wallowed out pit in the middle?
I know, because I did and I needed a new mattress.
I went shopping and want to give you the scoop on what I found.

Have you seen the ads about foam beds?
They pretty much tout the fact that you are sleeping on metal springs your whole life.
Which that is true, and what an innovation it was at the time.
The foam beds are neat.
I looked at one at the mattress store.
It does just like they say on TV.
The first thing that scared me off was the price.
Then my friend told me they tried one.
Remember; get a mattress from someone who will let you return it after you sleep on it.
Anyway, they got a foam mattress.
He said after you lay on it, it conforms to your body. Then, he couldn?t get out...

Effective Treatment For Fibromyalgia Patients

Effective Treatment For Fibromyalgia Patients

 by: Jon Campbell

Fibromyalgia is a perplexing disorder that has just begun to make itself known in the medical community. Because of its wide range of symptoms and often intermittent nature, little is known about effective treatments for the condition, but there is evidence that something as simple as a memory foam mattress or topper can help some FMS patients. www.sleepaidfactory.com

Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread, sometimes debilitating pain in muscles, tendons and other fibrous tissues. Other symptoms may include an overwhelming feeling of fatigue, and difficulty with concentration and complex mental tasks, sometimes referred to as "fibro-fog." As the medical community struggles to learn more about FMS, and to separate it from similar disorders like chronic fatigue syndrome, patients have been left largely to their own devices...

Visco Memory Foam Mattress Guide

Visco Memory Foam Mattress Guide

 by: Charles "Chuck" Harmon

A visco memory foam mattress gets it's name from the visco-elastic material developed for NASA in the early 1970's in conjunction with the space program.

The astronauts in the space program were facing incredible g-forces, at take-off and re-entry, and the materials that were available, at that time, weren't sufficient to cushion their bodies.

Of course, they weren't looking for a memory foam mattress, they needed seating that was more like a big, overstuffed recliner.

Visco memory foam was developed from foam that had some unique characteristics, such as being open celled and able to return to their original shape and resiliency after being compressed.

You may have seen the commercial with the 30 ton steam roller smashing a mattress flat and how it slowly returns to it's exact original shape...or maybe you're more familiar with the picture of a hand above a mattress...

Mold and Illness

Mold and Illness

 by: Ben Hermsen

Molds and fungus are nearby virtually everywhere we go. For the most part these molds are relatively innocuous. Certain molds, however, do pose substantial health risks. According to Berlin D. Nelson, Ph.D., department of plant pathology, North Dakota State University, Stachybotrys Chartarum or ?black mold? is the most prominent and notorious of the toxic molds (1).

Black mold is a heavy producer of mycotoxins (toxins created by a fungus). These mycotoxins cause a wide range of symptoms from headaches to flu-like symptoms, and chronic illnesses. The mycotoxins created by black mold are numerous, but fall into 3 main categories: Macrocyclic Trichothecenes, which inhibit protein synthesis; Phenylspirodrimanes and Cyclsporine, which are strong immunosuppressive agents; and Stachylysin, which can lyse erythrocytes (destroy red blood cells). With all three groups present there is little wonder why mycotoxicosis (mycotoxin...

The Stages of Sleep

The Stages of Sleep

 by: Cameron Elliott

It?s 11:45 pm. It?s time for a journey. Perhaps you?ve begun this journey several hours earlier. Perhaps you won?t begin for several more hours. No matter. You?ve undertaken this journey an uncountable number of times in your life, and know the path well. But it?s time to take with fresh eyes. To take it stage by stage, and to understand the science behind the mystery.

Are you ready? Let?s begin.

Stage One: This is the beginning of sleep, as you lie in your bed, head on soft pillows and comfortable blankets pulled up around your chin. At this point, you?re easily awakened, by loud noises, flashing lights, or other distractions. Your eyelids flutter, and your heart rate and breathing begins to slow as you begin to drift in and out of sleep.

After about 10 minutes, you might have a hypnic jerk- the sudden feeling of falling that wakes you up, but soon you?ll drift into the second stage.
